White House Landing to Rainbow Stream Lean-to
15.6 miles
Breakfast at
7:30 was eggs, bacon, English muffins, pancakes, coffee and juice. Very good.
After everyone settled their bill, it was 9:00 before the first boatload
got carried back across the lake. We got
on the first boat.
The southbound
folks at Whitehouse told us about the upcoming trail. Roots, roots, roots. The profile in the book looks really flat so
were expecting the going to be easy, but it was not.
The climb up
Nesuntabunt Mountain was quite steep although not long. At
the top we got a beautiful view of Mt. Katahdin, 16 miles away as the crow
flies, 36.3 trail miles!
We walked
beside ponds, on beaches and beside rustling waters, leap-frogging with
Jurassic and Flickertail. Flickertail
shared with us her story about how her husband had died with an unknown heart
condition. She was finishing up a
thru-hike, all the way from Georgia.
