Day 22 - Monday, April 20, 2015
19.9 Miles
Mark picked us up at the Econolodge in Harpers Ferry, shuttled us down to Snickers Gap and we hiked back to Harpers Ferry.
We
had 2 more hills of the Rollercoaster to do first thing. Then --Woohoo! We passed the 1000 mile point! It was marked with a small wooden sign nailed
to a tree in the middle of nowhere.
We
reached the Virginia/West Virginia border, ridge walking for awhile. There were a few rocky patches but the path
was level.
When
we reached Keys Gap we decided we would get off the trail temporarily to go to
the nearest store for a snack. It took
longer than we expected and the walk to the store was pretty precarious and too
close to the edge of the highway. We
hitched a ride back to the trail with store employee who was getting off work.
It
was a beautiful sight to see the Potomac River below us as we hiked into
Harpers Ferry. When we reached the
closest point to the Econolodge we stopped there for the night.
