Clark's Ferry Shelter to Highway 325

Day 11

Clark's Ferry Shelter to Highway 325
13.4 miles

I was so glad when daylight came and we could get up.  It had been a restless night for me.  The temperature was in the low 30s and it was snowing.  By 7:45 we were on the trail.

We soon reached a powerline and then about a quarter mile past the powerline we saw tire marks along the side of the trail.  Evidently where the ATVs had been a few days ago retrieving a body.  We later learned the suicide was a local 34-year-old man who had been found by hikers after he had hanged himself.

We stopped for lunch at Peters Mountain Shelter.  Perusing the trail register there, I found a notation by a couple of hikers who said they had come upon the body beside the trail and how disturbing it was. I can only imagine.

The hiking was fairly easy today on top of the ridge.  There was one long descent at the end down to Highway 325. We reached our vehicle at 3:00, ready for a good meal, a bed, and a day off.

As we were driving down Highway 125 to Pine Grove for the night we happened upon Buddy’s Log Cabin Family Restaurant and decided to stop for dinner.  It appeared to be originally a walk-up ice cream window with a restaurant added on.  It was a fairly large dining room and was well-populated at dinner time.  We ordered pork chops and sides for Wait-up, fried chicken and sides for me.  Oh my gosh!  When our plates arrived we were astonished at the size of the portions.  But we ate it all.
