James Fry Shelter to Boiling Springs

Day 8
Tuesday, April 5
James Fry Shelter to Boiling Springs
12 miles

We awoke this morning to a cold 26 degrees, feeling like 16.  We stayed mostly warm in our tent and were up at 6:30 for breakfast.  We were the first to leave the shelter.

There were two steep uphills today and one really rugged boulder field between Sheet Iron Road and Whiskey Springs Road.  Just a glimpse of what is to come in northern PA.

Another center point was noted by a bronze plague on a boulder high on the mountain called Center Point Knob.  Then we went down into flat farmland country into Boiling Springs and to our vehicle.

On the way out, we stopped at a little food mart and finally celebrated our half-way milestone – not with a half-gallon but with a pint of ice cream.  Better something than nothing, I guess.
We booked a free room at Sleep Inn in Carlisle, thanks to a stay two-one free deal through ChoicePrivileges.  We called Mike Gelinas and lined up our shuttle for tomorrow.
