Grafton Notch to East B Hill Road
10.3 Miles

A slackpack day – always a welcome treat to not have to carry a large backpack.  We borrowed a small pack from the hostel and packed it with lunch, snacks and water—not near as heavy as our large one.  The hike up Baldpate Mountain was not as hard as it looked from the bottom.  It was very unusual looking tiers of bald rock.  The top was a beautiful place where we stopped for lunch.

Going down the north side was like walking on a very steep sidewalk.   After Frye Notch Lean-to we went up a small mountain then started the descent to East B Hill Road.

Just before the road we crossed a stream above a waterfall.  It was fun hiking with Daisy and Blue Feather today.  Our hiking speeds seem to match pretty well.

At the end of the day I examined my Keen hiking boots and determined that they probably wouldn’t make it to Maine.  They are fairly new too, only a few months old and this is their first hiking trip.  The terrain in New Hampshire was pretty rough, not only on us, but on our boots.  The seams are coming apart and the bottom tread is coming off.  So I put in a warranty claim to Keen and ordered some more just like them to be delivered to us up the trail.
