West Cornwall Road to CT 41

Day Three
Wednesday, May 3. 2017
West Cornwall Road to Conn. 41, Salisbury
16.6 miles

Staged vehicle at Conn. 41 and rode down to West Cornwall Road to started hiking at 8:00.  After a straight up first thing in the morning, it settled down to a pretty easy day. At the top of that first mountain was a lemon squeezer-type boulder to walk through.  There were rolling hills in middle of the day. There is a short road walk at Water Street where we walked past the hydroelectric plant, well-known for the cold shower opportunity on the outside of the ivy-covered building. We sat at the picnic tables near the plant for lunch.

Going up Prospect Mountain looked like Harriman State Park with open forest and switchbacks.

It was in the 50's all day and windy. Cloudy but visible, several beautiful vistas.  We finished hiking at 5:00.

Moon Dog from NH is staying with us tonight at the hostel. It’s pretty nice to be able  to come back to the same private bunk-room several nights in a row and  leave our stuff there.  Of course, if the hiker season was in full swing, we would have to share the top bunks with others.

Big Lu cooked a family dinner tonight of herbed chicken, broccoli and bread and we sat around and reminisced.  We found out that Hudson on his thru-hike was just a few days ahead of us when we hiked in March of 2014. He remembers the snow storm that happened when we were at Chestnut Knob and Woods Hole Hostel. He said it was the worst winter weather in a long time.  We remember  it well.
